Healthy Eating Tips for when you eat out

Despite the trend of gorging on unhealthy, fat-laden food when eating out, it is possible to maintain a healthy diet when eating away from the comforts of home. The key to eating out healthily is simply: everything in moderation. The main problem of restaurants is not always the food but the portion sizes. Typically, your meal would actually be enough to feed two or three people sufficiently. To avoid overeating or eating things that will leave you feeling crummy later on, here are some tips for healthy eating when dining out.

1) Order grilled or broiled instead of fried: This reduces the fat and oil content in your meal and provides a more fresh, light flavor.

2) Order fruits or vegetables as sides: Instead of loading up on the french fries or macaroni and cheese, try to order healthier options. You might also consider rice and beans.

4) Order water. Pop and all of those other sugary drinks have an abundance of calories in them. If you are truly interested in being as healthy as possible, water is the way to go.

5) Share or Stop: Listen to your body and stop when you feel full. Do not force yourself to eat everything on the plate just because it is there. You should share your food with others at the table or ask for a take-home box so you can enjoy your food later.
